France advanced to the Davis Cup quarterfinals after Michael Llodra and Julien Benneteau defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber and Christopher Kas of Germany 6-1, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 for an insurmountable 3-0 lead. Benneteau converted the French duo’s second match point with a forehand volley winner on Saturday.

Novak Djokovic struggled past Sam Querrey 6-2, 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3 for Serbia to take a 2-0 lead against the United States in their Davis Cup first-round tie on Friday. In the opening singles, Serbia’s Viktor Troicki beat John Isner 7-6 (4), 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4. The Davis Cup matches between Chile and Israel in Coquimbo have been delayed for a day because of the earthquake, and will start on Saturday and finish on Monday. The International Tennis Federation announced the decision on Wednesday, four days after an earthquake and tsunami killed about 800 people in Chile.
